Billboard #1s

There's this really cool site that Corinne posted on her blog that tells you what "the #1 song in the U.S.A. on this date in history, according to Billboard magazine" was. Here are some dates that are significant to us:

My Birth Day - "That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne & Friends (I've NEVER heard this song before)
Jed's Birth Day - "Beat It" by Michael Jackson
Our Wedding Day - "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry

High School Flashback

I so wish I had a picture from high school to post with this. I'm pretty sure all of those pictures have been burned. Or they're at my parents' house. One of the two. :)

1. Did you date someone from your school? Kevin, but he had already graduated when we started dating.
2. What kind of car did you drive? 1993 Isuzu Amigo! That car was the *sweetest* car ever - good memories.
3. What was the most embarrassing moment of HS? I tend to block those out...so I'm sorry to say I don't remember any.
4. Were you a party animal? :)
5. Were you considered a flirt? Queen Flirt
6. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? Choir all four years
7. Were you a nerd? No, but I was in AP classes, so I was around them quite a bit.
8. Were you on any varsity teams? Varsity choir count? It's a team...
9. Did you get suspended/expelled? Not in high school...
10. Can you still sing the fight song? Couldn't then, can't now. Don't care. I do remember "Strike 'Em Rattlers!" though.
11. Who were your favorite teachers? Mrs. Montgomery (Calc), Mrs. Schaeffer, Coach Mac, and Mrs. Ross because she was a pushover
12. Where did you sit during lunch? Depends on the day/year. With friends, or at the "mormon table", or fast food or home my senior year.
13. School mascot? Rattlers
14. Did you go to homecoming, and with who? Yeah, Mike Villarreal and Ben Terry
15. If you could go back and do it again, would you? No thanks. I'm so over it.
16. What do you remember most about graduation? It was SO LONG. And Project Graduation was a BLAST!
17. Where did you go on senior skip day? I had NUMEROUS skip days...I specifically remember one with Kim Roberts after we went to Cowboy Breakfast and bummed around town all day
18. Were you in any clubs? I was secretary of FCCLA and I was in NHS

21. Are you planning on going to your 10 year reunion? Maybe. I hope I can. There are a bunch of people I'd love to see.
22. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself? Take my AP classes/exams. So worth it.

Confession Session

EXTREMELY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO FOLLOW. CONTINUE ONLY IF YOU CAN DO SO AND NOT JUDGE!! Thank you.

I posted my Thankful Thursday yesterday (because I thought it was Thursday yesterday...long week), and I guess it was a good thing because today needs to be dedicated to this post. I have a huge confession. I need to preface this.

Any of you who have seen me since I started dating Jed have noticed that I have gained weight since then. About 25 pounds of weight. NOT GOOD! It's not just because we used to go out to eat almost every night when we started dating (we have since curtailed that and don't go out nearly as often). I also started my "sit-on-your-butt-all-day-long-and-we'll-put-the-office-candy-bowl-right-in-front-of-your-face" job around that time too. Both factors contributed to me adding a small child's weight to my already extra large self.

We were going to the gym pretty regularly (about 2-3 times a week) while we were dating, and then we got engaged. That's when we stopped going altogether. Yeah, like FIVE MONTHS AGO! I seriously hadn't been in that long, until last night. I weighed the most I've ever weighed in my entire life on my wedding day. How sad and pathetic is that??
The good news is that I haven't gained weight since we got married, like most people do. But I haven't lost any either...

So last night my friend
Amanda Nielsen pulled me to the gym. Thank goodness for her because Heaven knows I wasn't just going to go on my own. It's weird because I won't want to go, but then I (or someone else) force me to go, and then I'm hooked and I want to eat better and live better, etc. It's just a matter of not falling off that track.

Anyways, we went last night and I watched the first part of the Lipstick Jungle season premiere and I liked it and I *wanted to stay* to watch the rest. Yay exercise! After I got off the treadmill, I weighed myself and sure enough I weigh the same as I did when we got married. Which is a good thing and a bad thing... Of course the good being I haven't gained any more. And the BAD being...and here's the public confession...

**Well maybe I should tell you that the reason I am posting about this is because I want to be accountable for myself and my weight so that I will change my habits and how I'm caring for my body. So if you want to help me out, drop me a note of encouragement every once in a while, or ask me how I'm doing with things. That would be so appreciated.**

Ok, for the bad. The BAD is...that...I weigh...
250 pounds. EEK! Yup. There's my confession. :(

No, I am NOT fishing for compliments, nor do I want them. Don't pity me, don't tell me how beautiful and awesome and smart I am. I know am I all those things :) and that's not the issue. This is real, I am serious, and I'm trying to better a part of my life that I've lost control of. I'll keep you posted on my progress, even if you don't care...

Thankful Thursday- Wednesday Edition

I'm thankful that I get to go out to Ohio for a whole week!! My mom called me a few days ago and told me that her and my dad are going to China for a week with my dad's company and they were going to have my Grams come out and "watch" Angela and Jeff, but her husband made different arrangements for them... By "watch" I mean drive. They are pretty much old enough to handle things for the most part, but Angela isn't quite 16 yet, so they need a chauffeur (AKA me). I can't wait to see Angela, Jeff, and Pepper, visit the Dippin' Dots store, take in the *gorgeous* fall landscapes, go on a drive through Amish Country, and much more! It'll be great to get away from work, but I'll probably take my homework for my online classes and just tackle them. Hopefully I'll be able finish my Excel class while I'm out there and get a leg up on my cooking class.

I'll be out there Oct 4-12. If you're in Ohio, call me so we can get together. If you're in Utah, call Jed and keep him company. :) I will really miss my wonderful husband and I know he will miss me too. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder", right?

No Stress Saturday!

*Don't judge me - I'm terrible at this whole picture layout thing... It would be a whole lot easier if it didn't change from the "compose" tab to the "preview" tab. Maybe I'm just clueless about what to do.*

This Saturday was wonderful! Jed woke up early and played frisbee (one of his passions in life) and I got to sleep in late (one of my passions in life). :) After we both got ready for the day, we did some errands and then headed north for our NO STRESS SATURDAY!!

I surprised Jed by taking him to The Living Planet Aquarium because he loves fish and aquariums and such. We had a great time! We saw tons of animals - we even saw a super active octopus that was really sweet. They have a tank right in the middle of the building that has fish and sting rays in it that you can just walk up and touch as much or as little as you'd like. Jed loved that. We also saw a really good show at the aquarium where they brought out birds, snakes, spiders, etc. It was really interesting and we both liked it a lot. We would definitely recommend The Living Planet Aquarium.

After the aquarium, Jed and I went up to SLC, grabbed a bite to eat, and headed to the Salt Lake City Public Library. Neither of us had been there before, though we'd driven by and always wanted to go inside - it's really a neat building with great architecture. We studied there for a little bit until we got kicked out (apparently they close at 6:00 on Saturdays) and then we walked around the grounds and looked at all of the neat things there.

We drove to the Conference Center and saw an incredible concert put on by the Utah Symphony and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with solos by Denyce Graves (who we thought was WAY over the top) and Brian Stokes Mitchell (who we thought was an amazing performer with a fabulous voice). My co-worker, Laurie Bailey, is in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and she gave me the tickets. (Thanks Laurie!!) It was such a neat concert and it felt good to get out and do something nice and "adult" for a change. :)

Word Cloud

This is a cool idea! It takes words from your blog and puts
them in a "word cloud". I stole it from Kristin, sorry. You
can get your own HERE.

Elder Busath

My brother Tom (Elder Busath) is on a two-year mission for our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He flew in to Salt Lake last night and Jed and I picked him up from the airport. We then drove around to see some family and got dinner (at The Pie!). We drove back down to Provo and our cousin Sarah came over to say goodbye and we got to visit with her for a while. We don't see her enough - she's such a fun and cute girl.

This morning Elder Busath woke up way too early (around 8:00), showered, and had to sit around for a few hours twiddling his thumbs. He was so anxious to leave and get to the Missionary Training Center, or MTC, but he couldn't really do the things he would typically do to take his mind off of it like TV, video games, etc. However we did throw in Planet Earth, but that wasn't engaging enough...When he decided he couldn't take it anymore, we left the house and went to this nasty yogurt place that Elder Busath loves, that's only in Provo, called Yoasis. Then we picked up Jed at school and headed over to the MTC. We checked Elder Busath in and took some pictures, went to an orientation for new missionaries, and then said good-bye while trying not to cry too much.My brother, "Elder Busath", will spend 3-4 weeks in the MTC where he will learn how to be an effective missionary. Then he will travel to the Boise, Idaho area where he will teach people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ for 23 months. The next time I will see him will be in two years. I'm very proud of him and I know that he will be an amazing missionary and do wonderful things that will enrich not only his life, but the lives of many who know him.

I Eat Rust For Dinner

1. On Sunday evening, two of my friends from home put together dinner for a bunch of us girls to get together and catch up. It was SO MUCH FUN! Angela Nelson and Mari-Michelle Musselman held it at their apartment and Amanda (Bratt) Nielsen, Sabrina Nelson, Christie Clark, the Peet twins, and a girl who had served in SA came. We had a blast just sitting around talking and catching up on what everyone is up to these days. It was so good to see the girls and reunite with them again - I haven't seen most of them since high school (four and a half years ago!). We will be doing this again. So all of you SA girls living in Utah, be looking for your invitation. :)

2. I need help/advice (and I need to vent). There are a few things amiss in our apartment. The first is spiders. We have quite a few, but hey, it's a basement and the landlady said that they come out more in the fall. As long as they don't bite me in the middle of the night (which has happened once since we moved in) I can deal with spiders; they don't scare me. A few days ago Jed sprayed some industrial spray that Adam & Amanda gave us, and it seems to be working so far, so we'll see how that goes.
The second thing (and this is where the advice/counsel/help comes into place) is that when we run the dishwasher, we've recently found rust-colored liquid in the dishwasher/on our dishes at the end of the cycle. I emailed the landlady (who lives in another state) about this, knowing that it couldn't be our "old dishes rusting" because all of our stuff is new, and she said that it's most-likely the racks rusting which can pretty much only be fixed by getting a new dishwasher. She says that they don't have the money for that, but they're willing to take up to $100 off our rent for the cost of a repairman to come look at it.
Dishwashers are only a few hundred dollars, right? I don't understand why we can't just get a new dishwasher for $100-150 more than they are willing to pay for someone to come look at it? Especially if she said it was unfixable? So here we are, having to choose between washing *every single item* by hand, or possibly ingesting rust that has settled on our dishes.
Any insights? Comments? Anything?? What would you do in this situation?

Our Date

Last night Jed and I decided to use the free movie passes (at the nasty dollar theater by Costco) we had on our Starving Student cards before they expire next week. I'm in the kitchen/living room watching TV and tidying up a little bit and Jed goes in the bathroom to finally cut his hair after he's been telling me he will for like two weeks. I go in every so often to tell him how it looks in the back, etc. I realize the movie starts in half an hour, so Jed hurries to finish his hair and jumps in the shower. While he's in the shower, I throw on jean shorts and a hoodie and throw my hair up in a ponytail. He gets out of the shower, goes into our room and puts on nice clothes, sprays himself with my favorite cologne, and does his hair oh-so-handsomely. When I realized that he was getting all dolled-up to go to the cruddy dollar movies I asked him why.
His response: "I'm going on a date with you".

Long story short, I LOVE my husband!
