Monday Memoirs

FRIDAY:
We got to have dinner with a big group of friends at my favorite Mexican restaurant. It was so fun to catch up with everyone and just have a really great night.

SATURDAY: (most of my pictures are blurry for some reason)
We drove up to Grapevine and hopped on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad train.

An hour and a half later, we were arriving at the stockyards in Fort Worth. We did quite a bit of shopping and found some really neat things. 

We got to sit in on a cattle auction for a little but and that was pretty interesting. 

We got to watch the "running of the bulls" and I got to ride a mechanical bull! It was my first time and it was SO much fun! I stayed on the whole time! Woo! 

Then, we jumped back on the train and got upgraded to first-class on the way back up to Grapevine. We totally lucked out because the kids sitting across from us on the first leg were kind of annoying. 

I dropped Jed off at home and I went babysitting for the night.

SUNDAY:
After church, I took a long nap. That was pretty much all I did the whole day...

Tuesday Date Night

Last night I planned a surprise date night. I picked Jed up from work and we went to the pet store (one of Jed's favorite things to do - he would have been happy if that was the whole date). Then we went to dinner at Cafe Rio (yum!) and there was hardly any line (score!).

Then, the icing on the cake was that we went to see Wolverine! Jed's been dying to see it since it came out last week and even though we don't normally see movies in the full-price theaters (we're poor and we can usually wait for a couple weeks until it comes out on RedBox...), I figured it would be a fun treat. :) Oh PS - if you want a practically empty theater, go on Tuesday night! It was so nice!

Go Spurs Go!!!

I made it a point to get tickets to last night's Spurs/Jazz game. Apparently they play each other every year, in SLC, at the end of January. Jed and I got to go last year (with the Keays and the Nielsens) and had a great time (except for that kid who threw trash on us and that old lady who kept turning around and pointing at us every time the Jazz scored...). I love me some live basketball, especially when my boys are playing! As you can see, our seats weren't amazing, but true fans will watch from the last row just to get to be in the same building. ;)


We sat with Spurs fans on the left and Jazz fans on the right. There was this funny old couple sitting behind us. No joke, every time the Spurs were on offense, the lady would shout (in her high-pitched old lady voice) "De-fense, De-fense". Except she was never in sync with the crowd and her voice always sounded flat. The first time the Spurs scored and I clapped, the old man tapped me on the shoulder and told me I wasn't supposed to clap. And they kept making these random, off-the-wall comments, as old people do, like "You make a million dollars and you can't make a free-throw?" or, referring to Duncan as "cry baby" all night, "Cry some more, cry baby". Then I was taking a picture of Jed and the old man practically grabbed the camera out of my hand and motioned for us to get together for him to take the picture. My camera is just a point-and-click but apparently it was a little difficult for him to figure out. It only took about 8 tries to even push the button down. Luckily it was a decent picture the first time...


The game itself was intense!! It was neck-and-neck the entire time. Back and forth, back and forth. 3-pointers were being made right and left. But in the end, MY SPURS were triumphant! 106-100!! :D

Thoroughly Modern Millie

During my junior year of high school, I was able to go on a choir trip to New York. While we were there, we went to three Broadway musicals. Of course I had heard of Les Mis (and read the book), but I hadn't heard of the other two: Aida and Thoroughly Modern Millie. It goes without saying that Les Mis was incredible, but the other two were amazing as well and I loved them.

Since then, I've watched the Les Mis movie a bunch of times and I've seen Aida twice -once in San Antonio when a friend was in the cast and once this past year at the Hale Center Theater. Well last night I dragged Jed to my first Thoroughly Modern Millie experience since that New York trip. We watched the BYU production. It was good, but it was no Broadway. I guess you can't really expect that good of a performance from a college production. I'm still glad we went; I like that musical. :)

Flunkerton

Yesterday was great! I came home from work to find Jed working on the computer, using our new digital drawing pad you use in place of a mouse!! I have no idea what the technical name for it is, but it's pretty sweet. I had no idea he was getting it, so that was a fun surprise. (This is not the exact model, but you get the idea...) On Saturday, Jed and I decided we needed some foliage in our house, so we went to Home Depot (not a fan - I prefer Lowe's) and each got a plant, a pot, and potting soil. We didn't have any paint, so we got some on Monday night. Last night, after dinner, we decorated our pots (photos will come...always a day late and a dollar short) and potted the plants. So much fun!

Kim was kind enough to come over and show Jed (and me) how to give me the B-12/B-6 shot. It didn't hurt nearly as bad this week. I don't think either of us were confident in Jed's ability to do it before. But Kim, being the great nurse/college graduate that she is, showed us how to properly do it and Jed is confident that he can do it from now on. I'll let you know how it goes next week.

Jed mentioned to me during the day, while I was at work, that he had planned a surprise date for me last night. I had no idea what to expect. We ended up going to campus and playing racquetball!! He had reserved a court for us. Exercise and a date. Who could ask for more? :)
We started playing the 'real' version of racquetball, and I was not feeling it. So we started playing my way (we named it Flunkerton), which basically consists of free-hitting, off any surface, taking turns hitting it, but it can't bounce on the ground more than three times. If it bounces more than three times before you hit it, the other person gets the point. It was super fun! I wish we had taken pictures...

No Stress Saturday!

*Don't judge me - I'm terrible at this whole picture layout thing... It would be a whole lot easier if it didn't change from the "compose" tab to the "preview" tab. Maybe I'm just clueless about what to do.*

This Saturday was wonderful! Jed woke up early and played frisbee (one of his passions in life) and I got to sleep in late (one of my passions in life). :) After we both got ready for the day, we did some errands and then headed north for our NO STRESS SATURDAY!!

I surprised Jed by taking him to The Living Planet Aquarium because he loves fish and aquariums and such. We had a great time! We saw tons of animals - we even saw a super active octopus that was really sweet. They have a tank right in the middle of the building that has fish and sting rays in it that you can just walk up and touch as much or as little as you'd like. Jed loved that. We also saw a really good show at the aquarium where they brought out birds, snakes, spiders, etc. It was really interesting and we both liked it a lot. We would definitely recommend The Living Planet Aquarium.
































After the aquarium, Jed and I went up to SLC, grabbed a bite to eat, and headed to the Salt Lake City Public Library. Neither of us had been there before, though we'd driven by and always wanted to go inside - it's really a neat building with great architecture. We studied there for a little bit until we got kicked out (apparently they close at 6:00 on Saturdays) and then we walked around the grounds and looked at all of the neat things there.





























We drove to the Conference Center and saw an incredible concert put on by the Utah Symphony and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with solos by Denyce Graves (who we thought was WAY over the top) and Brian Stokes Mitchell (who we thought was an amazing performer with a fabulous voice). My co-worker, Laurie Bailey, is in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and she gave me the tickets. (Thanks Laurie!!) It was such a neat concert and it felt good to get out and do something nice and "adult" for a change. :)

Our Date

Last night Jed and I decided to use the free movie passes (at the nasty dollar theater by Costco) we had on our Starving Student cards before they expire next week. I'm in the kitchen/living room watching TV and tidying up a little bit and Jed goes in the bathroom to finally cut his hair after he's been telling me he will for like two weeks. I go in every so often to tell him how it looks in the back, etc. I realize the movie starts in half an hour, so Jed hurries to finish his hair and jumps in the shower. While he's in the shower, I throw on jean shorts and a hoodie and throw my hair up in a ponytail. He gets out of the shower, goes into our room and puts on nice clothes, sprays himself with my favorite cologne, and does his hair oh-so-handsomely. When I realized that he was getting all dolled-up to go to the cruddy dollar movies I asked him why.
His response: "I'm going on a date with you".

Long story short, I LOVE my husband!
